Follow the leader.

Who ever wanted to be the follower? Didn’t everyone raise their hand, jump up and down and shout, “Pick me for the leader! Pick me!”?

Hide and seek.

Which would you rather do? Hide or seek?

This answer didn’t come so easily. In my home apparently we all want to hide. No one wants to be the seeker.

Childhood games. We’ve all played them. Perhaps we’ve even carried them over into adulthood. Perhaps there is significance in our choices.

I’ve spent the last week or so contemplating choosing a My One Word for 2014.

I really thought it had already been chosen, and started this post as such, but it has evolved a bit.

I am a control freak. I am a planner. I live by a calendar and routine. I find comfort in tradition and stability.

Perhaps that glimpse inside my head makes you uncomfortable. You may even cringe at some of my favorite words. It’s ok, my husband cringes and rolls his eyes.

I do not find comfort in the unknown. In loss of control. In letting go of even the idea of having control of any given situation.

I thought my word for 2014 would be FOLLOW. I wanted it to be FREEDOM. Instead, I believe I’ve been lead to SEEK.

My focus scripture for 2014 is going to be:

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

I’m going to follow by seeking Him. I have a feeling I’ll find quite a bit of freedom in the process.

I expect to find God, to hear from God. To be able to discern His will for my life as opposed to my want for my life.

I expect He will do much more work in me than I can even imagine if I will truly seek Him with my whole heart this year.

So, I’m choosing a word to focus on for the entire year. What about you? Are you focusing on a goal? Are you focusing on God?

I’d love to hear your word, your resolution, your goal, and I’d love for you to ask me how I’m doing staying focused on mine throughout the year!

As I set out to SEEK.

  1. Seek…..and you shall find. A worthy goal indeed.

  2. Michelle~Thanks for stopping in! I've never done the #myoneword focus, but this year I thought I'd try something more focused. Do you choose a word for the year?

  3. As the previous commentator said a worthy goal indeed. It is interesting I also looked for a word to define my 2014, this is the first year that I looked for a word. Mine is belief / believe/ have faith. I want to go back to the blind belief we had when were children.

I do believe I am getting better day by day with Believing. Good luck to you and seek.

  4. Liliana~Did you read (are you reading) the My One Word book? I'm only half way through it, but it is great. I would strongly recommend it if you haven't already heard of it! I downloaded it from Amazon.

Are you blogging about your progress on your word? I'd love an accountability partner! Thanks for stopping by to chat!

  5. I love “seek”. There is so much hope attached to it…and you will find if you seek!! ♥

  6. Wow you said a lot and I will try to answer “shortly!”
My word for 2014 is Restoration. I believe with all my heart this will happen and I know it is God's will in every aspect. I am writing a post this week for UBC called Yes, you can die of a Broken Heart and it will cover this.

When you said- I am a control freak. I am a planner. I live by a calendar and routine. I find comfort in tradition and stability.- I would say the same thing about myself. I manage 3 businesses outside the home, run a tight ship inside the home, am blogging and promoting my memoir I released a few months ago, travel as a motivational speaker and recently my husband was in an accident that has rendered him disabled so am full time nurse as well. I better be organized and a planner.

But God is in total control and gives me grace, mercy, wisdom and patience.

I am glad I connected with you,

  7. I have been doing this “word for the year” thing for several years. Some words are a easy some a struggle. last year was a struggle…my word was Purity. This year my word is Treasure. It was given to me while reading Luke 2…”But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.” I look forward to hearing about your journey with your word, seek.

  8. Hope. There's a word all in itself. 🙂 Scripture tells us we will find if we seek. As I've been reflecting, I think there's going to be more depth to it than I originally though, but depth is good.

  9. Carol, Thank you so much for stopping by to chat! I always say a lot!!!! I love words and have the gift (or curse) of gab. 🙂

Restoration would scare me. I will absolutely look for your post later this week. I'll try to find hope instead of fear in it!

You are a very busy lady! My life outside our home is crazy, but I don't run too tight of a ship inside. It's a crazy mess! I'll be praying for your husbands healing and recovery and strength for you as a caretaker.

I, too, am glad we were lead to each other!!!

  10. Patricia, You have experience!!! What other words have you done? Do you blog any of your journal from the year with your word(s)?

Treasure is a great word. I imagine it has great depth, and will go more directions than you ever imagined. Please feel free to check up on my seeking frequently. I need all the accountability I can get!

Thank you so much for joining the conversation!!!!

  11. Carrie Ann, I love your word! It feels really refreshing to me! I will have to check out the book. I haven't selected a word for the year, I'll have to pray on it. On a similar vain, though, I have received a theme of what will happen in my life. God gave me “acceleration.” So, I'm looking forward to what that entails. Feels like another wildly adventurous year!

  12. Ilesha,

I responded to you last night and lost internet when I clicked “publish” thanks to our weather conditions. I really like the concept behind this, and I think reading the book and doing the journaling helps to bring specific focus to what God would have me focus on.

Acceleration is an exciting word! I think I've been in a life of acceleration without much direction, so now it's time to seek direction. I bet He will take you on an adventure wilder than you're imagining!

  13. What a wonderful word, with so much meaning behind it! I love the metaphor you used, of childhood games. It makes it easy to understand what you mean–and I feel inspired!

  14. Sonya, Thanks for dropping in again! I'm just getting ready to see what your fashion of the day is!!! I love childhood games, well, games of any kind really.

I'm glad you found something to be inspired by. Please stop in again!

  15. My word for 2014 is Joyful. I picked it because God has spoken me about joy that comes through the sorrow and boil of the world. I hope to have His joy in my heart.
