Never Shaken Always Stirred

Stirred up.

That’s what hit my mind this morning.

On our way to school a relatively new song was blasting through the speakers, and at the line, “We won’t be shaken.” I asked, “But will you be stirred?”

Both kids looked at me like I was a little crazy, but immediately I knew what my topic today was.

Our faith won’t be shaken, but will we be stirred?

I can’t speak for you, but I live in a place where tolerance is touted like a badge, Christians embrace passivity like ‘turn the other cheek’ means never stand up for you beliefs, and while we’re turning that other cheek for literally the umpteenth time, we’re also turning a blind eye to the blatant injustice going on right in front of us.

No, my faith won’t be shaken. I am grounded in Christ.

But will I be stirred?

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25

Consider one another. Why do you go to church? To get something or to give something?

Many go to church when they themselves need something. Spiritual or physical.

Scripture tells us to consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.

Do you want to see people change? Love them the way you want them to love you.

Do you want to see people serve? Serve them the way you want to see them serve.

Stir up love and good work by modeling love and good works. Your faith may not be shaken, but you can definitely stir up some love and good works!

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 2 Timothy 1:6

Timothy was a very passive Christian. He was full to overflowing of Christian love, but he was timid and shied away from confrontation. Does this sound like someone you know? Like you?

Stir up the gift of God which is in you. Stop waiting for God to work a miracle through you! God has gifted you and is waiting on you to put your gifts to use! Be bold. Be courageous! Use the gifts God has given you for His glory!

It’s time we stop being passive, and start being a presence in this world. We can’t claim to be persecuted when we continually keep silent in an effort to keep the peace. Christian people must be willing to speak up for their beliefs and rights.

Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 Peter 3:1

How is my mind being stirred? Is it being stirred in reminder of the scriptures? Is it being stirred in ways that are pure?

It would be useless to stir up a impure mind, but a pure mind needs to be constantly stirred. We haven’t arrived until we meet Jesus on the other side. There isn’t any excuse to stop learning, to stop growing, to stop having our mind stirred until we pass from this life to eternity.

So, I wonder, are we being stirred? Are we willing to be stirred?

Shaken? No, I won’t be shaken, but please, Holy Spirit, please, stir this spirit!

  4. Great post Carrie. This I need to do. I am one that hates confrontation, so stepping out of my comfort zone is sometimes difficult. I do this for the Lord.

  7. Thanks, +Melanie Baker. I love when posts write themselves like this one did at 7 am in my car. I hate that I have to wait until late in the evening when I get home to get it in print.

  12. Hi Tamara! Glad you stopped by and have found something that causes you to think. It's the teacher in me that finds joy in knowing I've said something that hasn't taught someone something, but has inspired them to think through something on their own.

    I know. I'm a nerd. 🙂
