Plumbing Problems Lead to Laughter

Sometimes you just have to laugh.

At 5:30 AM I was up dealing with plumbing problems times two. As I’m staring blurry-eyed at an overflowing toilet, the thought process says “Two choices: praise or curse.”

I don’t get up at 5:30 AM on Sundays.

I don’t typically get up to use the restroom during my sleeping hours period.

So, to wake up EARLY on my only sleep in morning of the entire week and have the toilet overflow enormously, well, making the right choice didn’t come naturally.

An hour later I fell back in to bed, and ten minutes before we should have been on our way out the door to church a woodpecker loudly woke us all up. Due to the backed up sewage system, showers were out of the question until later.

So, we missed church today. We snuck out of the house grungy for breakfast out and then locked ourselves in when we came back home.

This is a totally Untypical Sunday for us.

And yet I needed a break. Downtime.

Not only is our septic system messed up, we’ve had sleet and freezing rain stuff today…so pretty much everything is on pause.

We have been watching practical joke stuff. Some of it is inappropriate.

But we laughed. Belly laughed at times. For pretty much the whole afternoon.

We get so tied up in schedules and responsibilities and rushing from one thing to the next that sometimes we don’t take the time to laugh.

Laughter is good for the soul. Laughter helps to recharge a weary body.

Feeling sad? Feeling stressed? Feeling tired? Feeling lonely? Feeling overwhelmed? Feeling too old for your age?

Loosen up, find a comedy on tv, and take some time to laugh.

I hope you had a blessed Sunday, friends! And I hope I have time to write some quality posts next week.

  1. Oh, I think this is a quality post. It made me smile, and I needed that. thank you!

    BTW, I'm visiting from NaBloPoMo

  2. So true. My husband's been trying to fix our leaky toilet and before he went back upstairs tonight to give it another go I reminded him not to loose his sense of humor over it.

  3. Everyone needs time out occasionally and yes laughter is the best medicine, especially when served in bed!!!

  4. That was kinda ironic, yes? I can imagine how stressed you were that Sunday morning! The only consolation is that the scenario gave you a good laugh afterwards. Anyway, I hope the sewer system has already been dealt with. It won't be funny at all if the same situation happens again in the future.
