Not Mayan or Yours

December 21, 2012: Yet another day the world didn’t end.

I’ve listened as many have discussed the predicted end of the world according to the Mayans. I only offered an opinion when asked directly which did happen a few times by a couple seventh grade students.

No, I did not believe, even for a second, that the world would end on December 21, 2012. In my opinion, there was absolutely no possibility that the Mayans could have been correct.

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Matthew 24:36-44

Those words were spoken by Jesus. Jesus Himself does not know the hour of His return. The angels in heaven do not know the hour of His return. God alone knows the hour.

I kept silent on this Mayan calendar issue. I don’t like to draw attention to things that get too much publicity as it is. When we give false things attention, it is like we give them undue credit.

My family knows how I feel about this Mayan calendar. If the Mayans were so smart, so plugged in, so omnipotent, then why isn’t their civilization still here to defend their “predictions”? If the Mayans couldn’t maintain their own existence, I do not believe they had any credible information as to the extent of all of mankind’s existence.

Declaring when time shall end isn’t Mayan decision to make and it isn’t yours. If Jesus doesn’t know and the angels don’t know, I’m pretty sure no human at all has any idea!

The Son of Man is coming at an hour we do not expect.

I believe this scripture is clear. If we are expecting Jesus’ return, He won’t be appearing.

All of these “predictions” are destined to be wrong. If someone’s desire is to extend our stay here on the earth, well, they may get their wish. However, if they truly want to be “right” and see their prediction come true, they will be wrong and fail every time.

I do not have an opinion on whether the Mayans actually intended their calendar to predict the end of the world or not. I wonder if they wouldn’t be just a little appalled at how humanity acted in response to their calendar.

I wonder, when people were preparing for the great apocalypse if they were truly prepared. See, if the world had ended, I have nothing to fear. My eternal destination has been settled and my salvation is secure.

Are you sure? If you were to die tonight, if the Mayans were twelve hours off and the world ends tomorrow, where would you spend eternity?

You don’t need to have a stock pile of food, generators, or underground housing in place for the end of the world. Doomsday prepping won’t prep you appropriately for eternity. In case you haven’t heard, you can’t take it with you when you die.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

John 10:10

Jesus Christ came to save us. To give us hope. To give us a future. And to give us all of that ABUNDANTLY!!!

Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy. All of the fear, doomsday, end of the world, negative vibes we pick up are of Satan. God gives a spirit of love not a spirit of fear.

If you are filled with fear when you think of death and end times, then you need Jesus in your life. If you can’t answer with 100% assurance that you will spend eternity in heaven, then you need Jesus in your life. If you don’t understand why I think all of this is so important, then we need to talk.

If the world has learned nothing from this “predicted” end of the world, I hope they learn that God shall not be mocked. The end of the world can not be dictated by man…this time, any time in the past, nor will it be any time in the future. God is in control.
